The originators of this website have been in the retail business for 27 years.  Most of those years were spent in the art and jewelry business.  Originally Door Gems were given to friends and family.  The enthusiasm for them grew to the point that a business became a viable alternative to a constant outflow of cash.  It has become increasingly difficult to find something “different” to give as a gift that falls within a reasonable price range.  Inevitably a duplication of gifts occurs among friends, family and associates.  How many bar sets can one home have?  However, the same home can decorate its doors many times.  Each room, cabinet or drawer that has a knob or hook can dress itself in a DoorGem for looks or feeling as stones have unique appearances and qualities.   Our designer, Sharon R. Powell, has been creating Door Gems for 20 years.   She has studied Gemology with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and used her knowledge to create unique and unusual items for the home and homeowner.
